The Year That Was: Highlights from the 2024 North Shore Prizegiving
The 2024 North Shore Prizegiving, held on Sunday, 28th July, was a night of celebration, anticipation, and inspiration. Athletes from juniors to seniors gathered with bated breath to discover the year's top achievers.
Celebrating Champions and Record Breakers
The evening kicked off with a tribute to our club champions, setting the stage for a night filled with pride and recognition. We proudly announced that our athletes shattered a staggering 242 records (combined LC & SC) at club, regional, and national levels throughout the 2023/2024 year. This remarkable achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Inspiration from an Olympian
Before dinner, attendees were captivated by an inspirational talk from NSS Life Member and New Zealand Olympian #886, Moss Burmester. Moss shared his Olympic journey, offering a glimpse into the life of an athlete in the Olympic Village. His stories of perseverance and success resonated deeply with everyone, providing motivation and insight into what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Honouring Achievements and Dedication
Post-dinner celebrations honoured stroke and distance recipients, acknowledged athletes who made international teams, and recognised junior, age group, and senior award winners. Each award highlighted the exceptional talent within our club and the incredible efforts made by all involved.
A particularly special moment was the induction of Shane and Helene Helms as NSS Life Members. Their tireless contributions as volunteers, officials, sponsors, and event organisers have been invaluable to NSS and the broader swimming community over the last 14 years. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering support and look forward to continuing our journey together.
